Traveling with pets in a rental car in Moldova: useful advice

Bringing a pet can make a trip more enjoyable, but the rental conditions and the animal’s safety need to be considered before departure.

Pet policies are not identical across rental companies or vehicles. Always ask for explicit confirmation rather than assuming that animals are automatically allowed.

Keep the animal secure

Choose an appropriate travel crate or restraint suitable for the pet and the vehicle. A loose animal can distract the driver and become injured during sudden braking.

Never leave the animal alone in a hot or poorly ventilated parked vehicle. Make sure water and suitable breaks are part of the plan.

Protect the vehicle interior

Bring a washable cover or other approved protection for seats and luggage areas. Pack cleaning supplies and secure bags so they do not move while driving.

Clarify cleaning expectations and potential additional charges before making the reservation.

Confirm that pets are permitted.
Bring water, a restraint and a travel mat.
Plan breaks away from traffic.

Plan pickup and return

At pickup, agree on any pet-related conditions and inspect the cabin. During a long trip, add stops based on the animal’s comfort rather than attempting to drive nonstop.

Before return, remove pet belongings and check the vehicle’s condition. Discuss any issue with the rental company openly and promptly.

Useful details for this topic

Ask about pet restrictions before paying: carriers, cleaning obligations and potential extra charges may be covered by the contract. Plan a secure transport arrangement rather than allowing a pet to move freely inside the cabin.

At stops, never leave the animal unattended in a parked car, especially in warm weather. Carry water, plan breaks and photograph the vehicle’s interior condition at return.
